Is cannabis delivery legal in DC?

Yes, for registered medical cannabis patients and caregivers. ABCA allows licensed retailers with a delivery endorsement, licensed internet retailers, and licensed couriers working for them to deliver medical cannabis to eligible patients at qualifying DC addresses.

Can a DC dispensary deliver to Virginia or Maryland?

No. ABCA permits deliveries only to addresses located in the District, and it requires delivery vehicles to travel through the District and not through surrounding jurisdictions to make deliveries.

What do I need to receive a cannabis delivery in DC?

You need an active ABCA medical cannabis registration and a valid government-issued photo ID, and you must be at the delivery address. Before handing over an order, the retailer or courier checks your ID and registration and confirms they match the order. Under ABCA's rules, the patient must be physically present at the residence or commercial building, which can include a porch, driveway or yard but not the sidewalk or curb.

Where can't cannabis be delivered in DC?

ABCA does not allow deliveries to District government or federal property. Its courier rules also exclude public or private school grounds, with an exception for deliveries to individuals 21 and older at colleges and universities. Hotels, offices and rentals may also have their own policies.

Do purchase limits apply to delivery orders?

Yes. Delivery orders count toward the same limits as in-store purchases: no more than 8 ounces of dried medical cannabis per patient in a 30-day period, along with ABCA's limits for concentrates and total THC.
