What is the difference between live resin, rosin and distillate?

Live resin is a solvent-based extract made from cannabis that was frozen right after harvest instead of dried. Rosin is a solventless extract made by pressing cannabis or hash with heat and pressure. Distillate is a highly refined oil that is purified and distilled until it is mostly a single cannabinoid, usually THC, with the original terpenes largely removed.

Is live resin the same as live rosin?

No. Both start from fresh-frozen cannabis, but live resin is extracted with a hydrocarbon solvent such as butane or propane, which is then purged, while live rosin is made without solvents, usually by washing the frozen plant in ice water to collect bubble hash and then pressing that hash.

What are liquid diamonds?

Liquid diamonds is a trade term for a THCA-rich crystalline extract that is separated from a live resin or similar extract and then liquefied, often blended back with that extract's terpene-rich fraction so it can be used in vape cartridges.

Which extract has the most THC?

Distillate usually lists the highest THC percentage because it is refined to isolate the cannabinoid. Live resin and rosin often show somewhat lower cannabinoid percentages because they keep more of the plant's terpenes and other compounds. Check the label and COA for the specific product, since numbers vary by batch.

Are concentrates tested in DC?

Yes. Under 22-C DCMR 6502.3, DC labs test each batch of medical cannabis products for the required cannabinoid panel and safety screens, including residual solvents, which matters most for solvent-based extracts like live resin.
